eRangatahi Leadership (empowering Rangatahi Leadership) is a new initiative that focuses on preparing rangatahi Māori 18-29 years of age for leadership. The call for this initiative arose from the Whānau Whanake Summit held back in September 2020 and it was one of three key actions from the action plan developed during workshops at this summit.

Our mission is to empower rangatahi to achieve their leadership goals and aspirations; to grow whānau leaders for apōpō.

Our program empowers rangatahi leadership through a strength-based, whānau centred, kaupapa Māori approach underpinned by our values:

Rangatiratanga, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga & Whanaungatanga

We all have the potential for leadership. Some of us want to lead, some do not, and some shouldn't. Our program will help rangatahi identify their talents, build a knowledge base, and develop their leadership skills to prepare and position rangatahi for leadership opportunities.

We welcome rangatahi Māori who are currently in BEET (Business, Employment, Education, and Training) and interested in developing their leadership skills. We are, specifically, looking for rangatahi who:

  • Are, or want to be, connected to their whakapapa.
  • Are willing to commit and actively participate in the program.
  • Set aspirational goals and consistently works towards them.
  • Are motivated to exceed expectations.
  • Demonstrate perseverance.
  • Are open to change and have a growth mindset.
  • Enjoy learning and appreciate the opportunity to increase skills, experience, and ability.
  • Takes ownership for their development.
